Tarleton State University baseball had their home opener on Feb. 18 against UT – San Antonio (UTSA). The Texans had a challenging series against the Conference USA member, winning 1 out of 3 games.

The Texans fell short to the Roadrunners in the first two games.

UTSA came to the first game with offensive power. Right-handed pitcher Bryce Hackett held them off in the first three innings.

“It was all UTSA after Hackett made an early exit, pitching 3.0 innings. The Roadrunners finished the game with 48 at-bats, scoring 20 runs over the final six innings,” Tarleton Sports reported.

UTSA won 21-5 over Tarleton in the home opener.

The Texan’s offense battled in the second game but ultimately fell short. The Roadrunners earned their second win with a 12-8 finish.

Tyler Junior College transfer Alec Williams hit a double, two runs batted in and stole one base during the game. UTSA took Tarleton’s starting pitcher, freshman Kyler Mentzel, out within the first inning.

The Texans had a comeback for the series finale on Sunday with a dominating 12-1 win.

According to Tarleton Sports, “The scoring got started early, with Tarleton (1-2) making it all the way through their lineup in the first inning. Alec Williams scored on a throwing error from UTSA (2-1), London Green and Carter Dobrinski doubled in back-to-back at bats to drive in two and one runs, respectively, Colby Seltzer singled to left field to score, Dobrinski and Mason Crews hit a rocket over the left field fence for a no doubt two-run home run.”

The win went to freshman pitcher Aiden Adams who pitched the first four innings. Zane Badmaev and Matthew Hickey also pitched against the Roadrunners.

The Texans continue their homestand with their next series starting on Feb. 25. They will go head-to-head with Ohio Valley Conference member Eastern Illinois University.
