Distinguished Alumnus Chris Kyle murdered

The most recent member of Tarleton State University’s distinguished alumni, Chris Kyle, has been killed tonight according to a press release from Janice Horak, the university’s Assistant Vice-President of Marketing and Communication.

The statement read, “The Tarleton State University community is saddened to hear of the death of former student, Chris Kyle. Mr. Kyle was recently honored by the Tarleton Alumni Association as the distinguished young alumnus.”

Tarleton State University President Dominic Dottavio also sent out a statement saying, “Our hearts go out to Chris’ family and friends at this tragic moment. We are proud of his exemplary service to our nation and are deeply saddened to hear the news of this tragic event.”

According to reports Kyle was killed at the luxury hunting lodge, Rough Creek Lodge, located on the edge of Erath and Somervell counties. Details on the events at the lodge are unknown at this time. Attempts to receive a statement from Rough Creek Lodge and the Erath County sheriff’s department went unanswered.

WFAA reports that the suspect, Eddie Routh, 25, is in custody in connection with the shootings.

Kyle leaves behind a wife, Taya, and two children, ages 8 and 6.
