Softball starts season 10-0

Tarleton State University softball has completed its second series of the season. They started their season on a high note during an away tournament at Furman University. 

Furman Tournament

The Texan’s played five games over the weekend starting on Feb. 11. 

Their first game was against Bellarmine University. The Texans earned their first win of 4-0 over the Knights. 

Later that afternoon, they played the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). The Texans dominated the Hawks in a 13-1 win. 

According to Tarleton Sports, “Every Texan starter recorded a base hit in the game with [Brady] Rowland leading the way with a 3-3 day at the dish and four RBI.” 

On Feb. 12, the Texans had their next pair of games. 

In the first game of the day, they had a rematch with the Hawks. Once again, the Texans came out victorious with an incredible 12-2 finish.

UMES collected six errors during the six-inning game. Tarleton had none. 

Senior Georgia Capell had a three-run home run, marking her first homer of the season. 

The Texans continued their streak with a 10-3 win over hosts Furman.

Tarleton finished strong on the last day with a match-up against North Dakota. The Texans had a challenging game but finished with 5-3. 

Capell added two more homers on the season, helping the Texans finish on top. 

Whataburger Invitational

Tarleton had another dominating weekend at their home opener, the Whataburger Invitational. The Texans scored 13 home runs over five games and four different Division I programs. 

They kicked off the tournament with a match-up against Syracuse. Tarleton won the challenging game 2-1. 

According to Tarleton Sports, “In a battle of undefeated teams, Tarleton walked away unscathed with back-to-back home runs from Brittany Coe and Miranda Pruitt to hand the Orange their first loss of the season.”

For their second game of the day, they went head-to-head with Prairie View A&M. In this match-up, the Panthers were no match for the Texans. Tarleton scored three home runs won 10-2.

They went against Alabama State on the second day of the invitational. 

“Tarleton turned on the offensive juice in the fourth inning and never looked back en route to their eighth straight win to begin the season with a 7-3 victory over Alabama State,” Tarleton Sports reported.

The Texans had a rematch with Prairie View to finish the second day. The Panthers fought hard in this second game but fell short in the end. 

The Texans scored four more home runs against the Southwestern Athletic Conference member. They claimed another victory with an 11-8 final. 

They concluded the invitational on Feb. 20 with a close game against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. Center fielder Amanda DeSario scored the Texan’s 13th homer of the weekend. 

Tarleton won 5-4 over the Islanders and now have a 10-0 record. 

Since their Feb. 11 start, the Texans have scored 18 homers with an average of 0.330 and an on-base percentage of 0.593. 

Up Next for the Texans

Tarleton softball will go on the road to the Lobo Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Their first game of the tournament will be on Feb. 25. 

Over the weekend, the Texans will go against Buffalo, UT – El Paso, North Dakota State and the University of New Mexico.
