The Multiple Martial Arts Club is new to the Tarleton Stephenville campus. It was formed in the Spring of 2018 and became an official Sports Club at Tarleton in the Fall of 2018.

“Despite the acronym, MMA, we’re more interested exploring various types of martial arts (East and West), and not just what you see most of the time in UFC,” said Mékelle Caballero, MMA Club Vice President.

According to the MMA Club page on Tarleton’s website, their purpose is to spread the spirit and disciplines of multiple martial arts to exercise, learn self-discipline and self-defense, as well as the culture, history and applications of the many martial arts of the world. They are looking to grow into other forms if possible, with some people considering bringing in a bjj gym instructor to show the difference in the styles.

The MMA Club is open to anyone interested in martial arts and the membership is free. However, you must be a Tarleton student with at least a 2.0 GPA to join. The club meets every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and every Friday at 6:00 p.m. for practice.

“It might sound cliché, but I personally enjoy seeing members come together every week,” Caballero said. “I like that they can have a comfortable setting to be themselves and share their interests.”
