BY CAROLINE CRAIN
Editor-in-Chief
Hello and welcome back, Texans. I'm Caroline Crain, and I'm so excited to be serving as the Texan News Service’s Editor-in-Chief this semester. We have a great team of dedicated writers, producers and editors, and we can't wait to bring you high-quality student journalism for all things Tarleton and the Stephenville community.
This edition shines a light on 15 student organizations at Tarleton State University, representing just a small fraction of the ways students can get involved on campus. Nearly 200 organizations are listed on TexanSync, each offering students a place to connect, lead and find their community. Highlighting these groups is one of the many ways we aim to showcase the heart of campus life.
It’s still surreal to be able to write this note as Editor-in-Chief. I’ve looked up to the Editors-in-Chief who came before me, and stepping into this role is both humbling and exciting. While we spend most of our time telling the stories of others, I’d like to take a moment to share a bit of my own.
I started my journalism career through writing in UIL competitions in my hometown of Gorman, Texas, a small town of less than 1,000 people just about 30 miles west of Stephenville. I came to Tarleton in fall 2023 and, after a bit of self-reflection, found my place back in journalism. The Texan News Service gave me a space to grow and rediscover my passion, both personally and professionally, and now I have the amazing opportunity to help guide others as they find their own paths in journalism.
I'm so grateful to be able to serve campus in my own way, just like so many organizations work tirelessly to do. I promise to put that same level of dedication toward making the J-TAC the best it can be, upholding the highest standard that this paper has held since 1919.
We have a lot of exciting things planned for 2026, so stay tuned. We pour countless hours into each print edition, but be sure to also keep up with us online at www.texannews.net and on social media at @thejtac1919.
