Tarleton State University men’s basketball team hosted Big 12 team Texas Christian University on Oct. 19, to end off the homecoming week. The Texans hosted TCU at the new EECU Center as the first game ever to be hosted there.
Tarleton head coach Billy Gillespie talked about how he feels on the EECU center.
“We want the fans to come because we have a really good team. We want them to come here and be proud of their team,” Gillespe said. “It’s such a wonderful place… Our fans are so proud of it, and everyone we talk to is excited to come inside and be a part of it. We are so lucky to have a place like this to play in.”
In this historical game, the Texans made 54 points with junior guard Dior Johnson being the top scorer with 17 points made. Also in this game they had their first points made by freshman guard Cam Thomas and the first slam dunk by redshirt freshman forward Andy Sigiscar.
In this game, the Texans had two stand-out players, including junior guard Dior Johnson and sophomore guard Dj Dormu, who made six points while only being on the court for 27 minutes.
The Texans lost with an 88-54 final score.
A fun part of this game was the halftime performer, Christian and Scooby. They were on America’s Got Talent in 2014, where they made it to the finals.
In the performance, Christian got into a handstand, and Scooby was on his feet. A big crowd pleaser was when Scooby balanced on a basketball and rolled the ball to another ball and walked into that ball.
The Texans will be hosting East Texas A&M for another exhibition game on Oct. 25, 2025. The season will start Nov. 3, away in Dallas playing Southern Methodist University.
