Red Umbrella Bakery reopens after closing for overhaul

The smell of fresh-baked cakes and cookies are filling University Plaza once again, as The Red Umbrella Bakery reopened its storefront on Oct. 9.

The store temporarily closed its doors in August to revamp and renew the shop, as well as a few behind-the-scenes operations.

The Red Umbrella Bakery is now open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. It opened with new staff members and new flavors, alongside their classic best-selling cupcakes and cookies.

“We've spent a lot of time reworking and figuring out some new things and really moving toward what we want the bakery to be for the future. We are really excited for the fresh start,” owner and Tarleton State University student Emily Thompson said.

The bakery will continue to offer custom pre-order items like cakes and cookies, as well as sweet treats ranging from cupcakes, brownies, cookies and specialty coffees.

The bakery specializes in cakes and treats for special events like birthdays or graduations and provides ample lobby space for studying and grabbing a sweet treat or a caffeine kick. The bakery also offers local on-campus delivery.

An entirely new staff of bakers brings a major change with people ready to serve the community and embrace the fresh start.

The Red Umbrella Bakery has been a member of the Stephenville community for the past few years and, with the new changes, is ready to continue providing sweets for special events and holidays for a long time to come.

“We want people to feel like this is the perfect place to come and grab a coffee or meet with friends and hang out,” Thompson said. “Whether they're celebrating or just need somewhere to catch up on assignments, we want to be that place.”

The Red Umbrella Bakery is located in University Plaza at 2029 W. Washington, next to Mi Familia.
